CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A viral video appearing to show a woman being suddenly attacked on a Charlotte sidewalk has led to the arrest of a man whose previous encounters with the criminal justice system are now receiving renewed scrutiny.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers arrested 32-year-old Di-Quan Schafar Hunt at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6.

According to police, investigators identified Hunt while reviewing social media videos connected to several incidents involving women in Charlotte.

One of the videos was tied to an assault reported on July 30 along East Boulevard near Euclid Avenue in the Dilworth and South End area.

The footage appeared to show a woman walking along the sidewalk before being struck and falling to the ground. Police said she suffered serious injuries, although they were not believed to be life-threatening.

The apparently unprovoked nature of the attack quickly drew widespread attention after video circulated online.
