A Century of Documented UFO Sightings Across the United States

Overview

This comprehensive UFO sightings dataset contains over 80,000 verified reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) collected over the past 100 years. Each report offers a unique glimpse into public encounters with unexplained aerial activity across cities, states, and regions.

Dataset Details

Two formats are available:

  • A scrubbed version with cleaned and verified entries.
  • A complete version that includes all records, even those with missing or partial data.

Approximately 0.81% of the entries lack location details, and around 8.02% include incomplete or ambiguous time data, particularly for reports dating back to the early 20th century. Each record typically includes:

  • Location (city and state)
  • Date and time of sighting
  • Duration
  • Description of the phenomenon

This dataset serves as a valuable resource for researchers, journalists, data analysts, and UFO enthusiasts looking to explore trends in unidentified aerial activity.

Questions Worth Investigating:

  • What regions of the U.S. have the highest concentration of UFO sightings?
  • Do sightings follow seasonal or time-based patterns?
  • Are there geographic clusters near military bases, airports, or known research facilities?
  • What are the most frequently reported UFO shapes, flight patterns, or behaviors?
